A Special All Hallows Eve Edition! Happy & Safe Halloween everybody and have a careful candy-eating weekend!
Everyday we see it – business cards and advertising on driveways, mailboxes jam-packed full of ads, promotions and everything junk. You open up your front door and down pours a potpourri of handy whatever services, maids, realtors, gardening and landscape outfits…you name it, it’s showered at our homes and shoved into mailboxes.
Now it’s our turn! Want a real clever and cool tip to instantly market yourself this Halloween? I thought so…
There are two ways to go about this: For one, stay home and protect your pets and property. Get about 100 of your latest and greatest business cards and write a cute little note on the back of them and as each child rings your door bell or casually knocks on the door, that’s a perfect opportunity knocking for you as well. As those kindred spirits yell, “Trick or Treat!” you politely answer that call with neither…you say to yourself as you look those ghoulish grins in the eye – JOB! That’s correct; as you hauntingly place those sugar treats into whatever basket or bag your creatures from next door present, you also carefully deposit a business card with the goodies for their parents to find and notice. Again, write a clever note on the back of each one and you just might get a phone call or two inquiring as to why mommy found your info in Sam’s sack of Skittles. Politely and professionally explain exactly why. Introduce yourself as whoever’s parent and you are unemployed and looking for a job and thought it was a creative way to network and meet a possible lead. What’s the harm? The second way to approach this is to walk around with your kids, reestablishing yourself with the neighbors as you might have lost touch with them over the months and strike a conversation that could lead to a phone call or meeting. Bring business cards along as well and maybe drop a couple cards into some passing pillow cases with a statement like, “Bradley doesn’t like Milky Ways, would you like them?” and kill two birds with one stone. Remember to bring some candy with you lest this turns out to be some stalking adventure that will get you into some trouble…unless your local police station is hiring, please stay away from that.
It’s all about reinvention; what can you do to accomplish what everyone else is trying to realize but achieve that same goal differently. What will single you out and get you noticed? Think creatively and you will start to get people looking. It’s about staying open-minded, on top of your game and developing new angles and avenues in your hunt for work. Hopefully I’ve helped.
As Always, Thanks For Surfing My Wave!
