Well, hello there and thanks for surfing my wave!
So I’m sitting in the Multipurpose Room of my graduating daughters’ elementary school waiting for her to perform; yes, a true joy to behold. This is a tremendous upside to not working – just not quite sure where the cash is coming from to pay for this pleasure…
This unemployment routine is keeping me rather busy and I haven’t been able to pick-up an actual printed newspaper in several weeks. I’m truly busier now than while working. In the course of my thoughts and arbitrary glances at the pages, I gaze at the horoscope. OK, I’m a Libra and it reads: “Your appetite for literary adventure is mighty. As your sign mate Groucho Marx said, ‘Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.’” WOW, did this stick out like carpel tunnel syndrome! When I was able to read newspapers regularly, I usually made it a point to browse my Horoscope and was equally bemused by its disclaimer of “read for entertainment purposes only.” Who do you think I am, Nancy Reagan?
Literary Adventure!? Who Knew?! This, folks, is immensely scary; of all the ideas, trends or in-my-path-of-travel notions would I ever think of becoming a literary adventurist. I love the title and only now wished I hadn’t placed my order for 1000 business cards. On my next order, it’s there! How farfetched, yet how exactly the case is this!? The paradox of the century. And the quoted comedian, born Julius Henry Marx, was born two days away from mine. How surreal, also, that a comedian be used as an example to bring out the astrologists point; one of my prominent threads of this blog is how important humor is in life, especially during jobless times.
“I’m not feeling very well - I need a doctor immediately. Ring the nearest golf course.”
- Groucho Marx
What I feel now is my true calling; surfing these waters in search of an undisclosed, yet palpable and palatable destination. Without risk, fortitude and urgency our Founding Fathers would not have allowed us the freedoms with which we can now intrepidly and nobly go forth and explore.
In parting for today, remember please, this one quote about both the entertainment nature of horoscopes and this Damocles we call unemployment. And make sure to please note its author…
“I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.”
- Groucho Marx
