Well, hello there and thanks for surfing my wave!
So just when you thought we were doing this for nothing…
It’s really all in relation to how you think about it – the approach. A classic and proverbial glass half empty or half full scenario. It’s a mental mindset, actually. We must consider our job search a personal investment; as most investments go, especially with our frenetic circumstances, it sometimes takes a great while before they start to pay off. And yes, not all of them succeed. But, if you use the best advisors and resources, and apply diligence and common sense, you can set yourself up for the best possible chance to achieve your goal and win the battle and the war.
Truth be told, we are getting paid – I believe the harder we try and the more avenues we explore to that end, the more lucrative the paycheck. Having said that, working toward our ultimate reward of employment, we must be vigilant and maintain an acute sense of reality to ensure that we don’t run into any square pegs along our long, bumpy and increasingly turbulent road. This is part of my mantra; persistently be open minded and innovative in your search to maximize all possibilities. What we are trying to avoid here is tunnel vision and obtuse thinking. We cannot and should not be reverting to old habits as we are in a new age of doing things much differently; it is crucial that we follow that surge.
We must beat the odds facing us. I call it failure by design; the system is intentionally set up to derail us. Stand up, keep at it and think positive. Lately I have had great difficulty keeping a handle on things, but if we stop the train it will derail; they win and we will lose. The least we can do is stay in motion and fight the atrophy. The alternative to continuing is fatalistic. Stay away from that viewpoint at all costs; if you need to seek professional support, do so.
Imagine and believe that our physical paycheck will soon come. It’s in the near future; I can see it and it’s palpable. Remember that the mental paycheck is what counts in this precious moment. Without this, we can’t achieve anything and all else fails.
We all know about keeping up our health, particularly when our immunity is at an all-time low now. When stresses are skyrocketing and pressures are mounting higher than ever before, we become increasingly susceptible to whatever is out there. All of us can attest to the benefits drinking plenty of water has on our bodies, and all of us can fess up that none of us are adhering to this simple task. So here’s my assignment…
If you want to make sure your glass is always more than half full, grab a very tall glass and always keep filling it up. Drink often and fill constantly. As our moods shift from moment to moment, and our mental glass fluctuates, look to your drinking glass and check its level. If you see it’s below half, go fill it up. If it’s closer to full, drink it up and then go fill it some more. At least we know for sure that we are giving it our best efforts to stay healthy and our physical glasses full. Like I said, be creative and improve your outlook a bit. It’s brutally tough…but I profess it’s worth every drop.
Thirsty anyone?
