Doesn’t it seem like every time the government releases its jobless numbers, they get it wrong? Shouldn’t these analysts be fired? Every month we are told by these knuckleheads that we are in recovery mode and then they prove themselves wrong like clockwork – why? Do they think we’re that dumb or are they really that stupid? Hmmm…you can easily decide that one. The sheer numbers month to month are getting fewer I’d agree, but the downward spiral is still in effect nonetheless. What repugnant analyst is going to tell you when this bloodbath will end? Again, they consistently get it wrong, so why trust them? Who and what do they know? Nothing!
Last week I attended an event unrelated to the job search, but never forget to always network no matter where you are; talk to everyone in the room, bring business cards and always look your best. So what did I learn from this venture? One of my friends was just notified his company is closing; another one bites the dust. I was chatting with a prominent radio broadcaster at the time our mutual friend approached us with his horrifying, yet so commonplace news. He was eliminated from his radio gig not too long ago and I asked him if his union was going to bat for him and help; his wife just laughed. What a sad state we’re living through. Why do I feel that soon the networks we have developed will start breaking down and disbanding because the groups will be to large to control or keep up with? Will there be more people not working than employed? Well, the numbers right now are very close to 20% if you take into consideration those jobless who’ve dropped off the monitored charts. Underemployed and those no longer collecting state benefits because they’ve exhausted them are becoming a larger percentage each month as people are struggling to find work and can’t. Remember these are national figures and may be quite larger locally – like in Los Angeles.
One of the many job placement services I’m registered with found many more leads for me to follow-up. As a matter of fact, one of these companies they found employs an executive in my network. How perfect! I contacted this individual and she emailed back that they just dumped a dozen people. So this shows that we know how to work the system, but the system is so corroded and dysfunctional nothing is working right now. Will it ever work again?
Is the answer to stop in our tracks and simply do nothing for a week? A month? Turn off the phones, computers and go into hibernation to see if anyone notices? Will we get results by quitting for awhile? It seems that the more I try the less I receive; the frustration and depression of it all looms in every one of us. How do we keep it from completely taking us down? Well, if everyone stopped looking then for sure we’ll hit the skids with flying abandon. Sulk for a day or so, but we can’t quit. We must keep going and continue our search for work. Call a friend and vent, go to the batting cages or a golf range and hit some balls to let out your frustrations. I can’t because of my neck; yes, this whole ordeal is now literally a pain in my neck. We must all find a positive outlet in which to relieve and release the stresses in our lives – quitting is not one of them.
Just remember, if we’re going through it, chances are you have company in that others you know are as well. It’s not you, it’s the situation we’ve been dealt. Let’s continue to play the game until we can find a better deck to shuffle; meanwhile, pony up to the table, put down a few more chips and hope the dealer takes a break soon.
Again, thanks for surfing my wave!
