Well, hello there and thanks for surfing my wave!
Yesterday, I went to another PinkSlipMixer, a national networking and job opportunity group I highly recommend. The individuals associated with programming these events work their rear ends off and have no budget; it’s all through sponsorships and decent Companies who donate. Please register today!
At this all day workshop I noticed a most interesting, amazing and cathartic connection to all the speakers presenting their fascinating stories and sharing their expertise in an effort to facilitate and steer all of us to a more meaningful and inspirational job search.
They all started over. One speaker, over a span of 25 years in one industry, had been laid off six times and decided to make a bold career change; another was in law enforcement and insurance and he too make a major switch. These people saw faults and concerns in their past experiences and took it upon themselves to make it their passion to improve upon what was and delivered on making the system better. They saw what was wrong and are now giving back to others so we don’t make those mistakes on our mission to find a job.
These are people, just like us having been through unemployment and dissatisfaction, who found a way to refocus their energies and completely reinvented themselves. These are individuals who have done exactly what I have been saying and doing for several months now. Think back on your past employment and determine what the problems were; what were the key issues from keeping your company from progress, improving results and achieving their goals? What kept you from doing your job better than you had hoped? What were you lacking and what was the position lacking?
Now is the time to develop solid, applicable and well thought out solutions to fix these problems so that when you are interviewed once again, you can tell them what you’ve done positive and beneficial to help your past limitations while still being proactive in your job search. If you’ve been able to test your new methods you can tell all perspective employers that you can do this for them to make their organization healthier. Forward thinking, innovative and assertive; talk about being self-directed and able to work on major projects unsupervised.
So as I sat and listened yesterday to many triumphant experts in their fields, I thought what can I do for myself, what do I see working right for me? If I can successfully show that to others and make it work for them as these specialists demonstrated to us in their everyday and professional lives, why not? All these guys turned their lives around and are not only superior employees, but healthier humans.
Don’t just stare fault in the face and point and place blame to whoever walks in the door, own the problem, be positive and resilient, not resistant and make it your passion to fix it and then it won’t be a predicament for you or anyone else ever again.
