Unemployment Benefits You Didn’t Know You Had

by TUM on June 15, 2009

Well, hello there and thanks for surfing my wave!

Today will be sort of a refreshing recap – reviewing some tools to help you help yourself to cope with job loss:

“Love is the answer - but while you’re waiting for the answer sex raises some pretty good questions.”
- Woody Allen

Laugh!  The most important thing is to keep your humor up.  Don’t be discouraged and hit upon an outlet everyday that makes you laugh.  Laugh a lot and laugh often.

Time.  We now have the time to look back and reflect on all those things we said we wanted to do or research but never had the time; we have that and more.  Personal proof is this website; I took some time and invested it in me.  I’m sharing those experiences with you.  That age-old adage you’ve undoubtedly heard, “If I can do it, so can you!”  It really holds enormous merit.  I am living my story; every part of it as it unfolds leads me closer to success.  Over the course of the past 5 months I have done more than anyone could possibly imagine getting me back to work.  Everything I’ve done, you should be doing.  Why?  It works!  You must make a concerted effort everyday to reach out to new people and original experiences in which to find employment.  Don’t overemphasize the same thing, as I keep repeating, nothing today is the same.  We must look at our future; where is your sector or industry moving to or leaning towards?  Go that route.  If you risk nothing or if your search is stripped of intestinal butterflies, you’re doing it wrong.  Push yourself a little more than usual and you will find unusual results as your mind gets pulled in more meaningful directions.

Network: It’s not just a Sidney Lumet Film, Television conglomerate or Cable outlet anymore.  We’re talking serious name dropping and door tapping.  Find out who the movers and shakers are in your business, how to tactfully get in touch with them and, of course, see if you know anybody who might know them first and go rock their world.  On-line resources today must be part of your daily work-search vocabulary.  The planet is addicted to internet platforms of communication; find your voice and let it be heard.  I’m doing it!

Learn and be innovative.  Take classes, read – whatever you need to do to brush up on anything and everything that was missing in all facets of your life.  Don’t just sit and do; go out and explore the land.  Keep walking; if our forefathers didn’t stay on the move, land wouldn’t have been discovered and we wouldn’t be here or have the prospects today to make things healthier.

Be flexible and go with the flow.  I love what I’m doing now, I’m straightforward about it.  It takes tremendous amounts of time and energy but the rewards, both personal and professional, are bigger than life.  It adds exponentially to my daily life because it offers structure, focus, direction and stability to my time while I seek more traditional occupations.  It’s win-win!  I am integrating all aspects of what I’m calling out for all to do.  Have a mind-set that will be a conduit for prosperity and achievement, but as the roller coaster whips around on our turbulent track, if it hooks left, go with it.  You never know what’s around the bend.

Now stop and take a moment or two to bask in all these glorious unemployment benefits we have; embrace and enjoy them to their fullest!

Thanks for your comment!

Going to school for free is a difficult one–the best way I know is to apply for grants and financial aid to the limits of the schools to which you are applying. Try to meet with a counselor at each school and explain your plight and see what they say. Shop around for the programs you are seeking, make sure they are accredited and get the best price.

Keep me posted and best of luck!

Warmest Wishes-
