Well, hello there and thanks for surfing my wave!
When I was a kid, I hated News – all aspects of it. I never cared, never wondered and never sought an interest in it. I can vividly remember waking up each morning to my dad’s radio blaring in his bathroom adjacent to the wall my bed was against. News in the morning and the news when he got home; Walter Cronkite and Louis Rukeyser for his business dose. He lived by and for the Stock Market. All this was, if not a constant in his life, his entire life. All-consuming.
And he read; The Wall Street Journal, The Kiplinger Letter and several locals as well.
Of course most of his news sourcing has gone the way of the dodo bird. What would he say today – he left us over a decade ago when I was just getting introduced to New Media.
Well, now I’m a News Junkie, I guess you’d call it. Since my layoff, it’s been extremely arduous to keep up with it. The handy dandy computer and various emails keep me minimally abreast of events enough to allow me to opine and converse intelligibly.
What would he think now? World Affairs, Politics, Taxes and the cost of things. He was always big on the cost of things and always let me know it.
In the news recently is a rash of stories, to say the least, in the world of Sports and Business. Why does it seem that the more people make, the more they want and the more they make, they have absolutely no friggin’ idea what to do with their money?
White Collar Crime.
Sports figures allegedly ingesting substances that will increase ability. Well, don’t you think if they suck at the sport, they shouldn’t be playing and charging us a gastric upset for tickets and parking? Maybe people should be honest with one another and do something they’re good at instead of drugging themselves while raping the public!
Businesses that are flat broke, again taking taxpayer’s money, but hold meetings at lavish resorts half the world away insisting that this must be done to implement its Corporate business strategies. Bullshit!
What values are being instilled here? I’m unemployed. I’m digging deeper into my savings – yea, the dough that dad left me – further and further each day. And we see blatant idiots and liars hourly on the news abusing their vast fortunes. Do they have any notion what it’s like to be on the brink? They spend and abuse like it just keeps coming and coming. Does anybody know the value of a dollar? Granted, that can and will be debated, but you get my point. I wish upon them all a time in their lives where it all goes away, yes all of it, and then they need to take an appreciation exam to get it back. Each time it’s abused again, another test. They need to score one hundred percent to regain possession, and get a 99 just once or 3 abuses, poof – it’s gone. All of it! There are just way too many people in this world that need it, appreciate it and know how to control spending it. I would consider taking a pay cut (if I could just get one damn offer) to again prove my worth; not bluntly ask for a 300% increase just because I know they have it to dole out. These losers simply ask for more, upfront, without so much as to consider their record, standing or merit.
What? Do you think money grows on trees? My father always said that to me. He loved apples – red delicious apples. He also loved picking those apples off the trees from his parents’ orchard. He also loved having money.
My parents taught me values and how to appreciate both apples, the trees from which they came and money. Each independently of one other. I truly urge others to do the same.
