Unemployed People Are Being Consumed and Spit Out

by TUM on August 17, 2009

Well, hello there and thanks for surfing my wave!

So I pick up a real newspaper over the weekend and the headline reads, “Consumers aren’t ready to buy in yet” and this morning I hear that “consumer confidence” is down and the stock market is plunging.

Um, excuse me, but who said the recession is on its way out?

You see, what happens is whoever these “experts” are being sourced and quoted in the media are ruining whatever hopes this world has of recovering.  The reason being is most of us believe what they read and hear, so they act accordingly – fair enough, right?

Wrong!

If people did more of their own research and took news with a grain of salt, when these stories are eventually proven either wrong or based on very weak or momentary facts, the volatility we are seeing on Wall Street and across all monetary platforms worldwide would either cease or be minimal.  Who are these day traders wreaking havoc out there?  Are they paid by Lobbyists or Insiders to create such an environment?  Are Fund Managers that fickle that they buy and sell such large volumes of positions everyday that if you were to call your Broker or Financial Advisor they wouldn’t have a clue either?  How is this situation created and sustained over such a cosmic period of time?

But still, the Media is throwing out the same stupid adage that the economic outlook is brightening.  Hey Pal, where is the American Consumer in this equation?  Where on Earth are you getting this disproven information?  Ahh…maybe these inhabitants aren’t living on this planet.  That’s it!  Life does exist on Mars, but the smart ones refuse to live there!  G-d Bless America!

I completely understand and respect that journalists are trying to get a handle on the situation, but they can only report what they are told. The radio, television and internet media are getting quicker to the punch by asking more salient questions to get to the bottom of what it is we are hearing and why after an uptick in financial numbers, all of a sudden someone got it wrong, and we hit a new pecuniary sour note.

The unemployed population must now stand up for what is right and go out there and say something.  We need to be smarter and wiser by making our own inquiries so we can be well-informed enough not to believe all of what is out there.  The more we educate ourselves, the less likely our world economy will be susceptible to the whims of so few.

So as we dig further and further to find a job, so must we also burrow through fiscal misnomers.  The more we let others dictate and direct our lives, it is highly likely that this roller coaster we are on will continue, inevitably.  We can’t open our wallets, so we ought to open our mouths and say we matter.  We will not be taken advantage of because we count; we are here.  The so-called gurus being quoted as declaring they are “surprised” to hear a record number of consumers saying their personal incomes have worsened are uttering this because they are not aware of us; our voices are not strong.  We are not to be consumed ourselves and then spit out by those who can’t comprehend our situation.

Maybe all of us employment-challenged folks need to write letters to Washington and to the Media telling them how bad it really is and how horrific we truly are.  Maybe then, and only then, will they have the correct consensus on which to report.
