Be Flexible With Your Team of Advisors

by TUM on June 5, 2009

Well, hello there and thanks for surfing my wave!

Sorry about yesterday – the website is undergoing some construction to give it a more robust look with additional flexibility and room to grow.  Well, as luck would have it, some of my “contractors” (Webmasters) are experiencing delays…sound familiar?  Well, the delay was due to lack of information on my part.  Go figure!

Careless vs. Cautious.

I have done a tremendous amount of research and studying to get this whole Internet thing where it is today.  Funny enough (or sadly), I was a very poor student and did little preparation for the majority of my schooling.  Bad habits indeed die hard.  My infatuation was with, well, what most teenagers are infatuated about.  I was somewhat careless and thought that showing up, understanding the gist of what was being taught and keeping my proverbial axe to the grind, I’d somehow get by.  I wasn’t a slacker, just a person who wasn’t stimulated…in the classroom.

Careless.

I am now more motivated than ever to accomplish what I have sought after for months.  When you have built something from the ground up, attended the school of hard knocks to learn an enormous amount to keep up with those helping you, the satisfaction you acquire having spent all that time and energy carries massive weight.  A much bigger stake is held when the product on the line is you.  What you are reading and what I’m developing is a result of me.  No Company is telling me what to do or what the target bottom line is or where I need to focus my energies.

Cautious.

When you put everything you have – heart, soul, time and money – into one sole basket, the eggs become fragile.  Proceed with caution; choose advisors wisely.  Now it is true that I am still pursuing other interests and prospects with respect to a “real job”, but I have had a significant time-shift in the effort and concentration I put into it.  My perspectives have changed.  So in regards to part of my team working on my site, it is my site – pride of ownership.  I treasure what I have established and don’t want it damaged.  I must give these wizards some more time to work things out.  Typical contractors, I believe, seldom give you accurate time-lines and when the work is done, is it always rock-solid craftsmanship?  I have never experienced that nor has anybody I know.  What I have encountered is that Webmasters are a breed of their own; highly trained, knowledgeable and resourceful.  So far, it’s pretty much on schedule.  I sincerely appreciate the care and concern those working with me have demonstrated.

And so we live our lives in flux; we plainly need to maintain and assert our goals, whatever they may be, but it is a necessity that as we investigate our future, we leave no stone unturned.  By the same token, if the best we have to offer was instantaneous, reaping its rewards would not be as momentous.

Be flexible, be enduring and be determined.  Do not give up and by no means give in.  I’ve learned that now.
