Is This Mentoring or Tormenting?

by TUM on April 1, 2009

According to Dictionary.com, mentor in its noun form is defined as:

1) A wise and trusted counselor or teacher.

2) An influential senior sponsor or supporter.

The word goes back to the mid-1700’s when the Greeks were more than just a Gyro.  Some synonyms are: guide, instructor, coach, preceptor, master and adviser.

Am I so bold as to call myself a mentor as suggested by this domain?

Well, I speak of what I know.  I’m unemployed, giving me a leg-up on most of the crowd in cyberspace.  Most, if not all publications and websites are driven from people who are working; they say they know because they’ve done all the research and should be entrusted.  The fact of the matter is a good number of them are just scanned in from print and online media junkets.  These people are just working journalists – or so they say they are…

I come from the horses’ mouth: It stinks, is highly repulsive, green and probably fatally plaque-ridden.  Of course I metaphorize here to prove the point.  I am unemployed, so I have the inside track of what you are going through because I am smack dab in the middle of it too.  To this end I am an expert, and believe the only virtual one.  I have done a tremendous amount of soul searching, taken classes and workshops, talked to a gazillion people and shopped myself silly.

My goal is to post, as often as I can, topics that you can relate to and, hopefully, put this misery into perspective to help you, your friends and family through an incredibly and enormously ugly time.

Let me know what you think.
