It’s true…the older we get the more often we hear it…it goes by real quick, so enjoy it while you can ‘cause before you know it…
Such is life…and death. And Unemployment.
Over the last 18 months I have lost my father-in-law after a long battle, and now my endearing, humble and devoted step-father just passed over the Thanksgiving weekend after an even longer battle. I called him Dad because he was one to me – in more ways than some natural ones we’ve all heard about.
Life is indeed short and goes quicker with each passing day like an out of control locomotive gaining strength and momentum with every click and buckle of the railroad ties beneath it, simply chugging ahead faster and faster, moment by moment into the vast landscape beyond our vision and power.
If life is truly that brief – and it is – then the time we are unemployed must be even more so, right?
Hmmm…
What seems like an eternity for us is perspective. Life is a temporary harbor; unemployment is simply one unexpected port on the voyage. A detour as it were. The trip is what you make it…you want a picturesque excursion? You want to go places and explore? Then let’s use life’s perspective to our favor and treat our joblessness as the destination of least importance and less time spent along our way. Some islands are more deserted and less attractive than others; unemployment for sure tops that chart. If everything were rose-colored, we would justly take advantage of everything more than we already are as we would not witness, understand or appreciate the bitter along with the sweet. It is the sweet on which we must focus our attention and for which we must strive.
But how is that attained?
Like that train going so fast that we cannot take the time to enjoy its travels or a ship berthed on shores of what resemble a land mass enduring the wrath of endless hurricanes, we must learn to understand that unemployment is just one minor blip on life’s’ radar. No matter what your crossing reminds you of, hopefully your life is overflowing with sweet blips and fewer bitter ones and that the sweeter, the longer lasting. May your radar point and guide you in the right direction so that this blip of unemployment disappears into the sunset sooner than later and may your brighter adventures lying ahead prosper…
…’Cause before you know it…
