I go to numerous job-support functions – two to three a week. I’ve expressed and stressed that since I’ve been blogging; you never know when you’re going to meet your next big break. So, you ask impatiently, what do you do while you’re waiting? You don’t wait! We must constantly create ways to get together and brainstorm…yes, it’s all about networking.
Here’s where you can make it work for you while you’re “waiting”. I’ve posted before about this topic, and now I’m making it work for myself.
Bartering Your Unemployed Services for Future Referrals.
When you meet somebody you like, trust and with whom you enjoy sharing ideas, it behooves all of us to find ways we can assist one another if we can’t help them directly. Here’s what I’m saying:
I’m in the Entertainment Industry, and also facilitating employment strategies to help you create your own path to that end. I’m working on not only conventional ways to find a job, but developing new and productive habits to become addicted. In one of my workshops is a gentleman who approached me in regards to this website. He is interested in what I have to impart and thought I’d be interested in his innovative venture as well. He’s nowhere close to what I do for a living and I’m light-years away from his career. So why should we meet and discuss?
Simple; we can directly help each other out by donating our services to one another. This impeccably dressed fellow would like to improve my look; his take is if you look better while hunting for work, you’ll feel better doing it. Hey, I feel better just hearing about it – sign me up! He’s a men’s fashion Executive who got laid-off from retail. We all know retail is off its mark, so this person is effectively reinventing himself, as I am, by putting his wares on-line. He is developing a website in which to display his products and consulting business and is also working hard on a phenomenal store model as well. He gets it; he is still seeking out that corporate angle, but is also giving it a shot flying solo. If his strategies pay off, they will be explosive! So, he is giving me his consulting and fashion expertise by coming to my home, gutting my closet and taking me shopping on the cheap. Funny enough, I could use some help with that…who knew?
In return, I will be offering my services by giving him some direction and pointers on his website, blogging and some creative ways to position his new-found passion. He also needs some assistance fine-tuning his social networking sites, all of which I can do for him.
In the end, we will both refer each others’ businesses to others which will lead to more customers and, eventually, income. It all makes perfect sense; we just need to apply some basic principles. Believe in yourself, believe you can, and then turn your beliefs into reality by doing it. Like I tell everyone, people won’t know what you need, who you are or what you’re doing until you tell them and ask for help. If you have a direct lead for them, great; if not, put your minds together and find a way to barter your services to each other for a mutual payment of future clients. You might even build a valuable friendship as well.
Again, thanks for surfing my wave!
