When the Going Gets Tough, Tenderize!

by TUM on May 29, 2009

Well, hello there and thanks for surfing my wave!

I don’t know about you, but I hear this more and more as I travel to and from forums to help us gain steady work:

It’s tough out there; it’s tough trying not only to develop resumes, cover letters and such, but learning to wordsmith the documents to get past the software to get in the door.  It’s tough dealing with family that not only didn’t understand what you were doing while working, but now they’re unclear why it’s taking so long to get anywhere and why can’t I do it like I used to.  Why?  Everything has changed in the working world.  Throw out all those manuals and history books and start learning the new ways.  It’s tough alright!

Do you like to cook?  I do!  I like to cook everything!  If you eat meat, do you run into a tough piece?  Vegetables a bit too chewy?  It can happen –

When the going gets tough, create a different tenderizer.

I like spices and if I’m in the mood, I’ll change them up.  More garlic, less pepper?  Baking is a science so you can’t mess with that, but when I just plain cook I never use a recipe or ingredient list.  It takes away all the fun.

Yesterday, I went to a PinkSlipMixer.  What a fabulous, entertaining, immensely informative and beneficial day.  From a traditional job perspective, all the speakers gave clues and support that are completely new to me.  They used true innovation to get you around the brick wall we keep hitting.  We got up-to-the-minute resume and cover letter design and how to help get around the obstacles, interviewing skills and motivational expertise along with how to network all this online using the latest tools and applications.  All new ways to get the “job” done!  Great people all around!  I highly recommend joining this group to help get you over the toughest of hurdles.  If you are looking to continue in the same sector or industry, this is the go-to place.  You will meet people that can help.  All of the resources at this event agreed it is the toughest they’ve ever seen.  Fortune 500 Companies are seeing 2000 applications per day!

New marinades to cook with – I Love It!

Now moving onto alternative ways to find work – my way!  “Why Just Look for a Job?  Create One!(TM) Today I met with Deborah Gallant, my Business Coach Who Gets the Internet.  You want tough?  Not only am I working on new tenderizers, I’m working on putting in a new pantry for them!  Everything we do in this world today is going to be tough.  Make it the preeminent learning and tenderizing experience you can.  You can’t just go to the store to buy something, take it home and plug it in anymore.  With today’s technology, we all need to read and study the instruction and training manuals to accurately know what it is we’re doing.  This is why applying for a job is such a bear today.  You can’t just write a resume – you have to learn the backend, the technology, to really get ahead in this world.  Take those classes, go to those mixers, seminars and meetings to explore all the ways to be properly trained.  It might cost a couple of dollars, but it’s well worth it; none of these things are designed to bust the bank (government’s already done that for us!) and many of them are free of charge!  Deborah is giving me great strength and support and she is driving me to answer my own questions to help this little website be the best engine it can.  I’m working on giving you the best of me and the best resources, apparatus and wherewithal to help me and you.

I do need to work on many things to get this site to where I want it to be, but I’m learning an inordinate amount doing it.  My whole point here is while you are looking for traditional ways to earn a living, go through the motions of exploration.  Make a concerted effort to do something new and exciting.  If all you are working on is doing the same thing day in and day out like you did in your last job, you are doing yourself a disservice.  You aren’t realizing your potential and wasting valuable time just waiting for the phone to ring or your dream job to appear in your Inbox.  What should you do?
