New Age Interviews For Aging Unemployed

by TUM on August 27, 2009

Well, hello there and thanks for surfing my wave!

I Did It – It Finally Happened!  I Got One!  I just had my first interview after seven months of unemployment…

…But it wasn’t for a Company.

New Age Interviews For Aging Unemployed.  Two Unemployed Guys Radio Show.

Please take copious notes and read with baited breath on how this transpired:

One of the job websites for which I’m registered is JobsDirectUSA – I highly suggest you go there after reading (video insert for this post coming soon!) this and registering to open up a huge networking and job resource tool.  For each job-related site you can find, you will gain more and more connections that will eventually get you noticed.  Another site that is strictly professional and an industry standard today is LinkedIn; many employers searching databases will find you there.  If you are not signed up, you will miss out on rich exposure.  One of the many invaluable tools of LinkedIn is their searchable Group database; JobsDirectUSA has several groups available to members subscribed to LinkedIn; I am one of those members (get the idea-with me so far?)

Once you have these accounts up and running and “linked” together, you start receiving notices of job postings, other networking opportunities and many other matters of interest.  One such article to which I responded was through these means.  Through a blind post, someone was searching for unemployed individuals with a unique and uplifting story to tell.  Well, who do you think responded to that call!  As I said, at the time I sent in my story, I had no idea what it was for; I simply knew I had no job and wanted to tell my story. I cannot stress enough (because I’m already stressed enough) how crucial it is to reach out to every web outlet out there.  With the technologies and creative ways we have at our fingertips for job-searching today, there is no plausible excuse to say I don’t know what to do or how to improve my list of contacts.  If you find anything that resembles a lead, go for it as I do daily.

When I received the reply back that they were interested and I was selected to appear, I then realized what I had hit upon which proves you never know until you throw your wares out there.  This is a story of two unemployed guys and a woman – their journey is remarkable.  It was the woman who answered back to me and is the producer of the podcast I was featured on this week.  Hence a virtual interview!  Not only was I interviewed by one entity, now hundreds of Companies listening have an instant way of getting in contact with me with just one visit to a studio – virtual syndication!  Without hesitation, I emphatically ask that you visit this website and see for yourself what it has to offer, and listen to my podcast as I was featured on Show #5.

Basically, these two gentlemen, through frustration, grief and despair with their unemployment situation, put their heads together and created an innovative and ingenious way to help them find employment and help others do the same.  This is exactly what I have been pounding over your heads for quite awhile now.  Don’t Look, but Create!  One of the guys is an IT guru and the other is a TV/Radio professional; the woman, who posted the inquiry, again unbeknownst to me at the time, is the producer.  She is an entrepreneur and is a true hero as well in this effort to have involved these two guys in this spirited and meaningful project.  Every week these three folks, in an office the size of a bathroom in a small town 100 miles from my home, professionally and expertly produce a 75-minute podcast over the internet to help the unemployed.  The podcast features unemployed people from all over the nation as well as experts in various fields discussing ways in which you can be assisted with your job search.  Each person featured receives ample time to tell the audience what it is you’re looking for.

Five years ago, I couldn’t have done this; it was nowhere to be found.  Today, it’s all over the place – you just need to be creative and have the fortitude to keep pushing and pushing with original methods to freshen-up your job search.

I’m determined to make it work.  Are you?
