Unemployment Philosophy 101

by TUM on May 26, 2009

Well, hello there and thanks for surfing my wave!

“May your passion be the kernel of corn stuck between your molars, always reminding you there’s something to tend to.”  ~Jeb Dickerson

Welcome to my new house!  As this is a work-in-progress, you will be treated to its transformation as it happens.  What I am developing is a Philosophy.  According to Wikipedia, “Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, truth, beauty, law, justice, validity, mind, and language.”  I am trying to impart a thought process, a way of thinking that has, to the best of my knowledge, never been done in this fashion using the topic of unemployment.  My main focus and concentration is studying problems and how to tackle them in a non-traditional way.  Since we are exploring avenues to locate non-traditional work paths (the hidden job), to make sense, we are also delving into ways to make these roads reality.  The road on which I’m constructing is being built right before our very eyes; that is the true beauty of virtual space.  Before we continue, here’s a passing thought that this morning’s job support workshop evoked: The only solid “A” I received in school was in Philosophy.  I got it.  I studied, read, thought a lot about what the writings were teaching and bringing about and I really enjoyed the class.  And it enjoyed me.  Why now is this coming full circle?

“The obscure we see eventually.  The completely obvious, it seems, takes longer.”  ~Edward R. Murrow

More about this virtual house, soon to be a home.  You see, as just a blog, it was naked; bare-boned and a wondering nomad amongst the sands of the dry, flat and barren desert.  No direction and no source for sustenance.  I now have a place for growth; I have planted the seeds to flourish into a vibrant star that can only be controlled by its possibilities.  Those are endless as this home already has six rooms, of which only 3 can be seen.  I have yet to formulate the furniture and these rooms have no paint.  We must coordinate all this before its proper introduction.  What will unfold here cannot be accomplished on Earth, especially not at the price.  Dollar for dollar, what this finished product will cost will be a mere fraction, and virtual properties are never complete until the vision is complete.  No zoning laws, no conditional use permits to contend with, no fights with the neighbors.  Life is good.

As we continue our course without jobs, look to your past, not as a lesson in history, but what we can learn from those lessons.  Look past your employment and into your childhood.  What worked, what didn’t – likes and dislikes…what made you smile or cry.  Listen to yourself think as your mind cues.  Search way beyond and stretch your imagination as if we were kids again role-playing or singing using the unfettered creativity within us without a care as to who was listening or watching.  And next time somebody asks you a question, don’t leave the answer open-ended.  Capture the moment and quench your thirst.

“One day, someone showed me a glass of water that was half full.  And he said, “Is it half full or half empty?”  So I drank the water.  No more problem.”  ~Alexander Jodorowsky
